Competition Guide

This page contains detailed descriptions for the RoboMine 2019 competition. The word 'bot' refers to the robot built by the team for the competition. The bot should be ready before the competition begins. Each team would be given thirty minutes to prepare for round 2. The size of the bot should not exceed 30cmx17cmx20cm .
Note: All dimensions follow Length x breadth x height.

CUBE GAME FIELD ONE

Round 1

Important parts needed (optional).

  • Colour sensor.
  • IR infrared obstacle avoidance sensor.
  • Good understanding of gears and lift mechanism.

For each box location there would be a box of dimension 5cmx5cmx5cm, which weighs 100g. There would be three main challenges in round one. However it is upon the team to decide the order they would prefer to solve the challenge. The bot would be placed in the start zone with the front facing North. The bot has to complete round one in 5 minutes to earn 100 points in total. If the bot fails to complete the first round within the required time, The current boxes that have been successfully dropped in their respective pads would be recorded.

First challenge, the bot is expected to lift the the box from box 1 and drop the box in the blue pad where it would be covered with gravels in a square form of 30cmx30cm. The blue pad would be 20cmx20cm. The bot has to drop the box on the pad to earn 20 points.

After completing the first challenge, The bot has to continue to box 2; second challenge. Lift the box from box 2 and drop the box in the red pad where it would be covered with gravels in a square form of 30cmx30cm. The red pad would be 20cmx20cm. The bot has to drop the boxes on the pad to earn 30 points.

The last main challenge would require the bot to follow the same procedures in earlier challenges. The green pad would be located on a higher ground, 10cm from ground. On the way to drop the box on the green pad, The bot would have to move over gravels of unknown distance. There would be a slope, inclined at 20 degrees and height of 10cm. This slope is to aid the bot to reach the higher ground where the green pad would be located. The green pad would be 20cmx20cm. The bot has to drop the box on the pad to earn 50 points.

Calculation of points.

  • A box dropped in blue pad (Total points): ___ / 20 points

  • A box dropped in red pad (Total points): ___ / 30 points

  • A box dropped in green pad (Total points): ___ / 50 points

  • Total boxes dropped in respective pads (Total points): ___ / 100 points

Round 2

Important parts needed (optional).

  • Colour sensor.
  • Ultrasonic sensor.
  • Good and reliable form of movement.

This is the final round of the competition. The bot has to complete round two in 10 minutes . If the bot fails to complete the second round within the required time, the current area that the bot is located and all areas the bot has covered would be recorded. The straight lines represent erected boards of height 20cm. The gravel zone represents a rough terrain filled with gravels on unknown distance. 20 points would be recorded if the bot is able to measure the distance from the red line to object A. The bot would have to blink an LED(not on board LED) to indicate the distance by using the colors:

  • red20cm.
  • blue10cm.
  • green5cm.

Combination of the these colors should be used to indicate distances that are not the numbers listed above. The bot has to hold the blinked color for two seconds and delay for a second before blinking the next color following the same procedure. Repeat the same task for object B to earn 20 points making total of 40 points.

There would be tennis balls of unknown quantity scattered on path as indicated as obstacles. Each area grants the team specific points. For a team to acquire these points, The bot has to cross to the next area in full. No part of the bot should be in the previous area or on the dotted lines else the team would not be able to receive these marks. These are the marks a team would earn when present in an area:

  • Area 10 ⟹ 5 points

  • Area 20 ⟹ 10 points

  • Area 30 ⟹ 10 points

  • Area 40 ⟹ 10 points

  • Area 50 ⟹ 10 points

The next challenge is to bypass 5 rocks of unknown shape and height arranged in form of a chess board, 5cm apart from each other. To finish the challenge the bot has to stop in black finish zone and blink a red, green and blue LED for two seconds to be awarded 15 points.

  • Object A and B distance (Total points): ___ / 40 points

  • Total areas covered (Total points): ___ / 45 points

  • Finish zone (Total points): ___ / 15 points

  • Round 2 total points: ___ / 100 points

CUBE GAME FIELD TWO

The total points from round 1 and round 2 would be summed to determine the winner of 2019 RoboMine competition. Prizes would be awarded to the winner, first runner up and second runner up. Certificates would be awarded to the remaining teams to congratulate their remarkable efforts.
